To prepare for automation, always stay curious and continue learning

In this New Year do you find yourself asking this question ‘What will make my career sustainable in 2021 and beyond? How to build a career which is future oriented?’ So, let me tell you that in this age of AI, curriculum needs to be expanded where human skills will be given special emphasis to have a sustainable career. Always remember that future jobs are more than just technological fluency.

With digital transformation on the rise, the focus is high on developing soft skills and emotional intelligence. Things like communication, self-direction, trustworthiness, discipline, initiative, flexibility, and self-efficacy are few things that AI currently lacks. That is the reason why we will always require humans with strong “soft skills” to bring that human touch, thoughtfulness, and consciousness to the workplace. So how do we prepare ourselves for automation? I will share few tips that will help you to be future ready and prepare for automation.

Learn new skills –Try and learn special skills and learn them on the job. Concentrate on skills that machines cannot replicate. Focus on soft skills like communication, creativity, empathy, curiosity and so on.

Educate yourself –Always educate yourself on what AI could mean for not only the healthcare industry but also other sectors. If you can stay ahead of the curve, you will probably be better off than your competitors.

Get trained – Now that you already know that we have started using AI in our various processes and in our future business strategies, get a hang of it. Involve yourself in various training programs where you will get to learn more about AI. Dedicate some time to know how AI is used in our day-to-day task.

Stay curious and get excited about AI – I do agree that advances in technology can be frightening, but they can be exciting too. Always remember that these tools are made to help you. So, get excited about them, learn about them, and figure out how you can benefit from them.

Focus on human elements - AI is usually perceived as a threat to employees, but that is not true. AI does not excel on human elements such as critical thinking, empathy, customer satisfaction and creativity. Machines are only meant to replace tedious, repetitive tasks, whereas a personalized approach shines on its own.

Avoid repetitive tasks – Get rid of manual task. Utilize your time in doing something innovative and unique. Always think how you can add value to your existing work. Doing the same thing over and over will not help you to reach your summit.

Stay up to date on new technologies – Technologies are always changing. New ones arise, old ones fade out. So it’s important to stay updated to figure out whether there’s a quicker way of doing something that may save you time and help you grow.

Preparing for the future of work is of utmost importance. So, as a leader I would always recommend, to always stay curious and don’t stop learning. Staying curious will help you stay ahead of the learning curve and will allow you to have access to new opportunities in the evolving world. Hence prioritizing your own continuous learning will not only give you an edge in the world of today but will assure your relevance in the world of tomorrow.
