Leadership Series | Automation & Innovation
Automation & Innovation are inextricably linked. Automation gives our employees more time to focus on innovation.Innovating new technologies and trends for better outcome;and automating them for consistent and accurate results would be a game changer for us in the healthcare industry. Both automation & innovation are essential for us to succeed & lead transformational changes to not just GeBBS but to our clients as well. Hence, we need to continuously work towards living our GeBBS Values & Culture that propagates automation and innovation thereby enabling us to be more agile & improve our way of working.
Our theme for the next 2 years is Automate- Innovate- Transform. Robotic process automation (RPA) is proving to be extremely helpful in addressing the interoperability gaps that exist in several heterogeneous systems in RCM industry. An AI-powered ( Deep learning, Machine learning, NLP ) bot can navigate and pull information from dozens of platforms to execute a task and can log into systems just like a human would, and then do data extraction and resolution, connecting the data together across different software systems.
I always advice my team to focus on what clients want and what they value and accordingly, automate and innovate our products or get our tools built around the services that we offer. We have created an AI & NLP base cognitive analytical coder software that simplify the medical coding workflow and strengthen the value based care. Our iCRA solution which mainly caters to the Risk Adjustment line of businesses. This application will help us gain a competitive edge for our clients and provide substantial value to the clients as well as GeBBS. I believe, along with all these applications, there are various other processes that can also be automated to improve our healthcare system’s processing. They are:
- Automation of patient’s data for devising strategies using EOB’s and ERA.
- Computer assisted coding in iCODE workflow and iCRA to enhance productivity and predict outcome
- Automation of routine and repetitive administrative work
- Automation system for clinical and quality measures
The 5 big benefits of automation are:
Time saving- Improve in quality and accuracy
- Reduce waste
- Increase predictability of outcome
- Data driven insights
We do not always need to create something that is path breaking like Edison or Galileo. If we look around us, we can bring about improvements in most of our processes. Think about tasks in your processes that can be automated, this will give you more time to be creative & drive innovation.
Innovation propels efficiency & improving our operational efficiency will only lead us towards more growth & success.
So now is the time to move forward from 'Excel - Innovate - Optimize' to 'Automate - Innovate - Transform'.
